A Green Pirate's Perspective

The Green Party suffers from "green" almost as much as the Pirate Party suffers from "pirate".

To be a party that threatens the Democratic and Republican parties, to come close to being on equal footing with them, the Green Party would have to change its name or join a larger organization.

I like the idea of joining a larger organization, within which the Green party would represent the environmental caucus.

Getting past the name, the Green Party needs a savvy political campaign supported by the best talent money can't buy. In line with this is the need for tapping creative types that have nothing better to do.

To give fuel to these bored creatives the Green party could create a sort of pyramid of information with a wiki. At the base would be detail rationalizations. At the top would be dumbed down statements, slogans and the like that everyone can understand.

To guide efforts like this the Green Party and its chapters should create strategic plans that can be referred to to keep everyone on track and defend or challenge allocation of time and resources, as well as aid in measuring progress.

Practice kaizen and document it.

I just imagined the

I just imagined the progressive Democrats splitting from their party and forming a new party with allied third parties like the Green Party. Then this new party would negotiate with the old Democrats as to who they would be willing to cross nominate.

I believe that we already

I believe that we already have that larger organization In the National Green Party http://www.gp.org/index.php
And if Obama doesn't get To work on shutting down these "Wars" , as he promised, The Progressives in the Democrat party will start looking to the Green party.

Fair point, but the National

Fair point, but the National Green Party to me suffers from the same name problem that the Pacific Green Party does, with regard towards becoming an accepted alternative to the Dems and Reps.

"Accepted" meaning that the party is in the double digits consistently.

Take your comment for example. A fair question for someone not familiar with the Green Party could be. "Why does the Green Party care so much about the wars? And why are they always against them? Aren't you guys all about the environment or something? Why are wars your focus?"

I think we loose legitimacy when we try to make such an absolute stand about something that is not easily relatable to the environment.

And by "easily relatable" I mean able to convince a random person that they are connected in ten words or less.

I don't see Progressives in mass looking towards the Green Party (national or state) as the party of peace.

Tangentially I am more or less a pacifist but am not for peace at all costs. I think there are times when war is appropriate. Also it is easy to see the Green Party as the party of weakness and negativity.

How do we answer the questions: Are you against war? Are you against corporations? Are you against religion? Are you against traditions? Are you against family values?

I see a need for us to be positive and to be in favor of things with our own twist.

Twelve words or less answers

Are we against war? It should be a last resort because we love life.

Are we against corporations? We recognize responsible corporations that have joined the sustainable community.

Are we against religion? The environment enriches the spirit, this belief is common to all religions.

Are we against traditions? Cultures are fun, diversity is exciting.

Are we against family values? We are social animals, we need each other.
