PGP SCC Meeting, 6/11/10
PGP SCC Meeting, 6/11/10
Present: Charles Newlin (notes), Seth Woolley, Mike Van Handel, Michael
Meo (facilitator), Randy Prince, Jim Nicita, Chris Henry(?)
Minutes from May 28 approved.
Mike Van Handel reported on response to press release on June
convention: Only one negative response, at least addressed to him; one
press inquiry, from the Coos Bay World; Mike responded diplomatically
about reasons for de-nomination of Rick S.
There was an article in the Oregonian about the Walt Brown and Chris
Lugo nominations, probably because Walt is well known and Dist. 5 is
considered competitive.
Reg. Drive/Membership recruitment:
Meo and Woolley reported on paid canvassing in Portland; test was
successful, so they will proceed; might be useful in other areas, too.
Charles reported that tabling in Corvallis produced a lot of signups,
not many registrations.
Canvassing to be based on 2 or 3 current issues: Voter Owned Elections,
IRV, Meo campaign
Randy told us about an initiative(?) drive in Eugene, curbtasers.org,
and associated Facebook group.
Candidate Recruitment:
Are there to be more this year?
Meo: probably via cross-nomination; Woolley pointed out that doesn't
apply to statewide offices.
Randy made the point that Wyden is vulnerable this year, on AIPAC
support, Single-payer, East side forestry bill.
Charles will call Tim Hermach.
Dist. 2: Jim asked about Kathleen Fitzpatrick of Mosier - Jim will call
her.
(Update: neither Hermach nor Fitzpatrick were willing.)
Jim asked about delegates to the National Convention - in Detroit, his
home town.
Chris Henry is planning to go.
Jim asked if we could name him an alternate delegate, and if there is
any money available to help with plane fare.
A motion was made and approved by consensus to provide 10% of treasury
funds, up to $500, to help convention attendees.
A further motion was made and approved to name Jim Nicita an alternate
delegate to national convention.
Next week:
Meeting time unchanged.
Facilitator: Charles
Notetaker: Michael Meo
