Campaign Updates
Christina Lugo - running for Congressional District 5
Last night (Monday 8 October) was a fairly good candidate's debate at Willamette View Manor in Milwaukie. My Republican and Democratic opponents were in attendance and we gave five minute presentations each and then did questions. My focus was on the Green New Deal while my Republican opponent talked about revitalizing timber. My Democratic opponent addressed his support for and lng port in Coos bay a well as shipping coal through our districts to support oregon jobs! I of course spoke in opposition and in favor of retooling for a renewable energy future.
Also this past week I put in TV appearances on WFTV in Oregon City, CCTV in Salem and TVCTV in Beaverton as part of their meet the candidates series. This past weekend I tabled with the Cascadia Green Party for a short time and participated in the Oct 6th Occupy Portland, Not Afghanistan march. I was also interviewed by the Oregonian editorial board and profiled in the candidates series on PDQ again thanks to Nick Mattos.
Next week will consist of meet the candidate and radio events in Mt Angel, Keizer, Depoe Bay and Lincoln City.
I am also doing one modest fundraising letter this month to help pay for expenses. If you would like to donate donations can be made online viia paypal at www.christina4oregon.org or by check to chris lugo for congress, 1108 7th st, oregon city. Or 97045.

Daily Astorian also mentioned me in their endorsement of Knute. Oregonian endorsed Knute. Willamette Week interview I was unable to attend was Kate getting severely bashed according to others present. Her campaign isn't going so well.
The Bend Bulletin was warm to the idea of using IRV to rank candidates in their editorial. Had a long talk with their editorial board on lots of issues with Kate. They were also aware of content on my website in advance. I know they will endorse Knute but I pointed out that Democrats need an option for those not willing to vote for a Republican. They were fascinated by my take on Brown's performance and many of my ideas.
In the debate forum the Progressive Party candidate skipped a lot of the questions due to lack of knowledge. People approached me after and were thankful I was able to broaden the debate so much more widely. Sending everybody a ballot with a voter registration card and using the residence twenty one days before the election to implement same day registration while pointing out that in primaries half the ballots go unused anyways so it is not a security problem.
I pointed out that we need to do a security audit not because of actual fraud but to increase confidence of the vote among all people. An audit that includes opening proprietary software and hardware.
