PGPO Calls for Ceasefire, End to Occupation, and Equal Rights in Palestine

The Pacific Green Party of Oregon (PGPO) condemns the targeted attacks on civilians in the recent wave of violence in Gaza. We call for an immediate ceasefire, an immediate end to the invasion and occupation of Gaza, the absolute protection of civilian populations, and the respect for equal rights for all in the region.  Seventy percent of the population in Gaza is comprised of refuges displaced at gunpoint in 1948, when Israel was established by colonial powers.

Hamas and Israel are deliberately targeting civilian populations in violation of the Geneva Conventions and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, which forbid targeting civilians and civilian objects such as homes, places of worship, and medical facilities, as well as hostage-taking.

The increased oppression of the Palestinians under the Netanyahu government has become even more heinous with Israel now cutting off electricity and delivering food, water, and fuel to the Gaza Strip, a violation of international humanitarian law prohibiting sieges on civilian populations. We urge all parties to cease attacks on civilians immediately.

The PGPO also urges media outlets to engage in fair representation of the conflict, noting that the Israeli government acts as much as a terrorist organization, with superpower backing, as Hamas. The indiscriminate clearing of Gaza will only create more hatred and instability, just as the invasion of Iraq did 20 years ago.

PGP Calls For Change In Policy Toward Haiti

The Pacific Green Party (PGP) stand in solidarity with the Haitian people, rejects the Calls for Foreign Intervention in Haiti, and Demands that the International Community Respect Haitian Sovereignty and the Wishes of the Haitian People for National Self-Determination.

The current crisis in Haiti is not new; it started with the US government-supported coup that removed democratically-elected President Jean-Bertrand Aristide.  Since then Haiti’s rule of law has faltered, repressing opposition movements, amplified by the aftermath of the devastating earthquake of 2010 and followed by Hurricane Matthew in October of 2016.  The UN also left a track record of abuses and a cholera outbreak that killed thousands of people and continues to sicken people across the country.

Another foreign military intervention will not solve the problem in Haiti. Haiti's problems will only be solved when the US cuts support to corrupt leaders, provide meaningful support to grassroots organizations and respect free and fair election results.

Candidate Slate focused on Campaign Finance Reform and Antiwar messaging

The Pacific Green Party nominated the top of its ticket, with candidates focused on Campaign Finance Reform and Antiwar positions.

At the 1st Nominating Convention held June 4th 2022, Pacific Green Party members nominated the top of the ticket with candidates focused on campaign finance reform and antiwar messages.

“The amount of money flooding elections this year in Oregon has become obscene and absurd” said candidate for Governor Nathalie Paravicini, ND.  “Oregon is one of only 11 states with no campaign finance limits, even though 82% of Oregonians voted in favor of a constitutional amendment allowing for campaign limits in 2020; so far every effort has been defeated by insiders.  No wonder experts say this year's governor's race will be the most expensive in history.  I am running for governor to offer voters an alternative to the major candidates who are all feeding from the same trough of big money."

In addition to Paravicini, the Green Party nominated Dan Pulju for US Senate and Mike Beilstein for Congressional District 4.  Both candidates are motivated by the disproportionate spending on the military industrial complex and the great harm done not only to people in Yemen or Ukraine, but also in the fight to address the looming crisis of Climate change.

“The USA spends more on the military than the next 10 countries combined, but is unable to provide basic healthcare, nutrition, housing and educational support for its people.  It is also failing to invest in the infrastructure improvements needed to address the ongoing climate disaster,” says Beilstein, who was a Corvallis City Councilor for 12 years.

Pacific Green Party Denounces Environmental Protection Agency Plan to Allow Continued Use of neonicotinoids.

Write to your elected representatives and demand neonicotinoids be banned outright.

Reports show the Environmental Protection Agency is advancing the interests of Chemical manufacturers over the public  interest for an ecologically viable nature. The plan would continue emergency use exemptions for a family of pesticides environmentalists say harms nature's insect populations and therefore a critical element in the web of life.

The plan, if ‘green-lighted’ would extend an emergency use authorization to 4 types of neonicotinnoids for continued use for another 15 years.

Tragically, pesticides kill without discrimination. The toxins seep into all areas of life, underground water supplies and into the human body.

Oregon Pacific Green Party letter support Students, Guardians, Teachers

The Pacific Green Party wholeheartedly supports the Oregon Education Association (OEA) in struggles with local districts over upgrades to school safety.

No person would argue that remote learning is just as effective as in-person learning, but the health and safety of in person learning should be paramount. The Pacific Green Party supports the CTU, OEA and all unions and would like to see the schools given additional safeguards before students, teachers, and staff go back into their schools at full capacity. When safeguards and staffing can not be met, pauses on in person learning are also paramount in a pandemic. We must all work together to add safety as quickly as the virus creates mutations that undermine older protocols.

The unions are taking a stand to help protect members from contracting the Coronavirus, but in doing so they are also protecting the health and safety of the children in the public schools and their families.   Although political leaders argue that schools are safe, they are ignoring certain salient points.

The CDC and Portland School district recently lowered standards for quarantine from 10 days to 5 days.  Many school districts have shown caution by retaining a 10 day quarantine combined with a test negative to return policy.  Secondly, stakeholders are demanding safety upgrades that are being installed in many districts but being denied in Portland, Chicago and many Oregon districts.  A list of 14 safety upgrades is listed below:

Green Party calls out Democratic Party efforts to suppress minor party access to the ballot box.

Ironically named "Freedom To Vote Act", S2747, follows failed "For The People Act", also known as HR1.

Ballot Box surrounded by barbed wire

It is truly enraging but not surprising, that Democratic leadership is not rising to the occasion to do away with the Filibuster, an undemocratic Jim Crow relic, to protect and expand voting rights for everyone.

Against a Republican legislative juggernaut opposed to federal standards for early voting, vote-by-mail and voter registration [and enhanced] financial disclosure requirements for political groups, HR1 failed to pass.

The Green Party lobbied to amend HR1 to not increase the qualifying threshold for matching funds from the current $5000 minimum to $25,000. Now, Democrats have returned with an even harsher demands for qualification to access the ballot box under S2747.

Using the cover of advancing needed voting rights reform, Democrats seem more hell bent on making it near impossible for minor parties, like the Greens, to qualify for and retain ballot access.  It also further entrenches the hold of moneyed interests on our elections.

Greens call for leniency, pardon for Whistleblower Daniel Hale.

Whistleblower protection is critical to prevent Government excesses, free Daniel Hale

Greens are committed to peace and non-violence including calling out the militarism that plagues our country.  We stand in solidarity with whistleblower Daniel Hale who was prosecuted under the Espionage Act, and which unjustly denies him civil rights protections under the Whistle Blower Act of 1989.

Facing 30 years in the federal penitentiary if found guilty at trial, Hale pleaded guilty to one count of leaking classified information on the U.S. drone and targeted assassination program. He now faces 10 years behind bars, sentencing by federal court by Judge Liam O’Grady on Tuesday 7/27/2021. He was sentenced to 47 months.

Prosecution under the WWI-era Espionage Act strips defendants of rights afforded under the Whistleblower Protection Act. However, Hale’s leak did not put American personnel at risk and only revealed a callous disregard for collateral damage by American military planners.

Undocumented face unjust deportations without universal representation.

Pacific Greens support proposed legislation to put a check on Federal authority.

The Pacific Green Party of Oregon supports a legislative idea, advanced by Pueblo Unido PDX, that would  provide a framework for establishing a universal representation system to protect undocumented immigrants from unjust state authority, currently under review in Legislative Council.

Undocumented immigrants face a constant threat of unjust deportations from Immigration, Customs Enforcement. For this reason, immigrant rights proponents associated with the Fair Shot initiative want legislation that will ensure a fair hearing by requiring representation for the undocumented.
Without ‘fair hearing’ legislation, the Federal immigration authorities are able to act with impunity against those seeking asylum, and deny a fair hearing by denying process and opportunity to make their case.

Biden follows Trump in pursuing Assange extradition; continues relentless attack on press freedom

Pacific Greens call on President to suspend extradition and issue pardon.

The Pacific Green Party stands in solidarity with Amnesty International and an array of press freedom and human rights organizations, including Reporters Without Borders and Human Rights Watch, in urging the Biden administration to drop the extradition demand in Great Britain and the specious US espionage case against Julian Assange.
At stake in Assange’s prosecution are freedom of the press and whistle blower protections.

Assange, founder of Wikileaks, which published revelations of torture techniques used by the US military in Guantanamo, video footage of a 2007 Apache helicopter attack in Iraq that killed journalists, and secret drone strikes conducted by the US in Yemen, has long been a target of the US Department of State and US military.
"The prosecution of Assange for publishing embarrassing information about US government actions is a threat to every publisher and journalist, a dangerous precedent that would void freedom of the press.  If Assange can be imprisoned, so can any publisher,” said Charles Newlin, PGPOR Media contact.
