Documentary Premiere: CRITICAL MINERALS Creating a Just & Sustainable Clean Energy Transition

    đź“… Wednesday, April 23
    ⏰ 5:30 pm
📍 Please RSVP online now to receive Zoom login details.

“CRITICAL MINERALS: Creating a Just & Sustainable Clean Energy Transition” is a 12-minute documentary about how to prioritize labor, environmental and human rights in critical minerals supply chains.

The U.S. government is currently considering a number of new trade agreements designed to help secure access to so-called “critical minerals” — raw materials like nickel, cobalt, lithium and others that are used in clean-energy transition technologies like electric vehicles, long-storage batteries, microchips and solar panels.

Depending on how they’re written, these critical minerals trade agreements can help countries meet shared climate, job creation and sustainable development goals or they can end up accelerating exploitative models of resource extraction harmful to workers, communities and the environment.

During this exclusive online screening, we’ll be joined for comments and Q&A by producer Mira Rubio of the California Trade Justice Coalition and other experts.

You’ll also learn how you can help ensure the clean energy transition helps advance a global race-to-the-top in human rights.

    Questions? Please email: [email protected].

Co-hosted by the California Trade Justice Coalition and Global Exchange.

Webinar: The Threat of Charter Schools

    đź“… Wednesday, May 7
    ⏰ 5:30 pm
📍 The webinar is NO COST, but to attend you need to REGISTER at https://bit.ly/CharterThreat

    Hear from:
•Dave Cash, President, United Teachers of New Orleans
•Karen Francisco, Advocates for Public Education Policy (Colorado)
•Casandra Ulbrich, Ph.D., Network for Public Education
•Chris Baehrend, Chicago Teachers Union, Local 1, IFT-AFT/AFL-CIO
•Jitu Brown, Journey for Justice, Chicago Board of Education
•Don Fitz, Green Party of St. Louis (Moderator)

The near total privatization of New Orleans public schools had devastating consequences for communities, teaching staff, and students. Charter schools are linked to right-wing forces that seem unconcerned with effects of school closings. They are part of a greater scheme to privatize medicare, social security, the postal service, and parks and forests and affect other benefits that all should enjoy. Charter schools can undermine public school financing via “sweeps” contracts and excessive lease agreements. It is possible to improve working conditions at charter schools through organizing, negotiating, and striking when necessary. The webinar will explore tactics and strategy for resisting school closures.

Presented by the Green Party of St. Louis.
