Local members of SURJ (a group that organizes for racial and economic justice) are conducting a Pledge to Protect and Resist Day of Action. Across the country, SURJ members will be asking elected officials and other power holders—to sign a pledge to resist Trump’s antidemocratic or immoral actions, and to champion the safety, dignity and basic human rights of all people.
On the day of the action, people will gather outside these institutions to either thank them for signing the pledge or continue to call them into doing the right thing and signing on! Here locally, we’ll be focusing on the Benton County Commissioners.
It will show the Commissioners that they have support in their decision to sign the pledge. Acting now and continuously through this president’s term will show that most Americans are not wanting these dehumanizing policies but rather want a government that supports its most vulnerable people.
The action is happening on Saturday, February 1st at 1 pm. We will be standing in front of the Benton County Kalapuya Building, 4500 SW Research Way. Please join us!
