Results from June 1st Nominating Convention Election

The Pacific Green Party held its first nominating convention marking a significant milestone in the party's efforts to promote environmental sustainability, social justice, and grassroots democracy in Oregon.

The convention saw Dr. Jill Stein emerge as a clear favorite, securing 9 delegates, while Jasmine Sherman received 2 delegates. Jorge Zavala did not receive any delegates.

A highlight of the convention was the insightful panel discussion featuring current Greens in elected office. Panelists Josiah Dean, Alex Polikoff, Michael Clary, and Michael Sonnleitner shared their personal experiences from various parts of the state, discussed the meaning of being Green on councils and boards, shared lessons learned, and explored ways to develop succession and governing expertise within the party.

Please see below for the results from our June 1st Nominating Convention Election.

Pacific Green Party Condemns University of Oregon’s Action Against Justin Filip, Demands Immediate Reinstatement

Pacific Green Party Condemns University of Oregon’s Action Against Justin Filip, Demands Immediate Reinstatement

Eugene, OR – 6/06/24 – The Pacific Green Party (PGP) strongly condemns the University of Oregon's decision to place Justin Filip on administrative leave for supporting the student-led initiative advocating for Palestinian rights and divestment from companies complicit in the Israeli occupation. Justin Filip, a dedicated member of our party, has been an unwavering advocate for social justice, human rights, and ethical governance.

The administration's punitive action against Justin Filip is a blatant suppression of free speech and an affront to academic freedom. It is deeply concerning that an institution dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and the promotion of critical thinking would resort to such measures against an individual standing in solidarity with oppressed communities.

PGPO Calls for Ceasefire, End to Occupation, and Equal Rights in Palestine

The Pacific Green Party of Oregon (PGPO) condemns the targeted attacks on civilians in the recent wave of violence in Gaza. We call for an immediate ceasefire, an immediate end to the invasion and occupation of Gaza, the absolute protection of civilian populations, and the respect for equal rights for all in the region.  Seventy percent of the population in Gaza is comprised of refuges displaced at gunpoint in 1948, when Israel was established by colonial powers.

Hamas and Israel are deliberately targeting civilian populations in violation of the Geneva Conventions and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, which forbid targeting civilians and civilian objects such as homes, places of worship, and medical facilities, as well as hostage-taking.

The increased oppression of the Palestinians under the Netanyahu government has become even more heinous with Israel now cutting off electricity and delivering food, water, and fuel to the Gaza Strip, a violation of international humanitarian law prohibiting sieges on civilian populations. We urge all parties to cease attacks on civilians immediately.

The PGPO also urges media outlets to engage in fair representation of the conflict, noting that the Israeli government acts as much as a terrorist organization, with superpower backing, as Hamas. The indiscriminate clearing of Gaza will only create more hatred and instability, just as the invasion of Iraq did 20 years ago.
